The I See Blood Cancer campaign is an initiative to raise awareness on less common hematological malignancies. Research has shown that identifying less common diseases can be a challenge for non-experts, which can lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment in patients.[1][2]
I See Blood Cancer aims to bring knowledge and resources to the forefront so that HCPs are well equipped to identify, treat, manage and support patients with these rare blood cancers.
Medical interns have a propensity to look for the exotic when a more commonplace explanation is more likely – a tendency that prompted Professor Theodore Woodward of the University of Maryland to say, “When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras.” However, in the case of rare haematological malignancies including WM and MCL, clinicians are actually faced with the challenge of identifying the far less common disease.
